Angelo's Barbecue

Every organization, civilian or military, has its own local watering hole and the 43rd Bomb Wing was no exception. Angelo's Barbecue was the undisputed home of the men who flew in Hustlers, period. Angelo George started serving Bar-B-Que and ice cold beer in frosted mugs, on St. Patrick's Day, 1958. To this day, the B-58 Hustler Association meetings always include side trips to Angelo's. Who can calculate how many tons of Angelo's brisket has been smuggled out of Texas in B-58s and other Air Force aircraft? Carswell crews even took it upon themselves to introduce Angelo's to the world by distributing 1,000 pounds of Angelo's barbecue at the Paris Air Show in France.

The stuffed bear that greets you at the door sets the tone. Decorated with moose heads and fishing trophies, Angelo's looks like a big, dark hunting lodge. Angelo's brisket is world famous. It is smoky, perfectly seasoned, and so tender you could cut it with a pickle spear. The ribs are very soft, and falling off the bone. Angelo's has some of the best brisket on the planet, but Fort Worth takes good brisket for granted. It's Angelo's cold beer that people in Fort Worth talk about. The beer schooners at Angelo's are made of thick glass and are kept in a huge freezer at an extremely low temperature (28 degrees Fahrenheit, in fact). The beer stays icy cold in these glasses for quite some time. In fact, when a draft beer is first poured into the glass, the beer freezes along the sides. It was the perfect beverage after a long day of chasing around at Mach-2! Stop by the ATM before you go because no credit cards are accepted; it's cash only at Angelo's.
